Do you have an awesome idea for a research project? Maybe you want to take your students on a scientific adventure or learn something new about the world of science through hands-on activities. Whatever your reason, the Sue and Roger Kirby Science Enhancement Grants is a way to make this passion happen.
Sue and Roger Kirby established this fund to provide opportunities for students who are enthusiastic and have a high interest in science in the Lincoln Public Schools. Sue was a presidential awardee in science and former teacher in Lincoln Public Schools. Roger is Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Sue and Roger established this fund to honor their parents Clare and Mary Kirby and Vernon and Ruth Roesch.
Applying for Funds
Application Open: October 5th, 2022 - November 16th, 2022
Award Amount: Up to $2,000
Application Criteria: This fund finances research projects proposed by teachers. Applications require a concrete outline, title, project description, one to three goals and research method. In return, the faculty advisor is expected to hold regular mentoring sessions over the course of the project to encourage, motivate and guide students through the process.
This grant also awards a faculty member a $150 stipend.
Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed by the LPS Science Curriculum Specialist and their designated LPS educator(s) along with approval from the President of the Foundation for LPS. The Science Enhancement Fund allows students in grades 6-11 to participate in significant and extended learning activities in the sciences. Strong preference will be given to students who would not be able to participate in the activity if such financial support were not available.
