Melissa Lyman

Norwood Park Elementary
Librarian/Computer Science Teacher
Nominated By: Principal Pam Hale

We are celebrating Ms. Lyman because of her passion for using literature and technology to engage our students in powerful learning. She has created amazing learning spaces for our students that invite curiosity, exploration and big thinking through reading, digital literacy and a Makerspace collection. She goes above and beyond her daily work to fill our library with incredible books that engage students in the process of learning and reading by reviewing books, filling student requests and building a balanced collection that inspires everyone to read. Students build their digital literacy through challenging projects that focus on learning to utilize digital tools, graphic design, coding and interacting with fun robotic experiences. She promotes reading through school wide challenges, the book fair and book give always so that students are building their love of reading and home libraries. Family engagement is important to her as she provides many opportunities for families to embrace and enjoy reading at home. She is a whiz and an inspiration to all of us!
